Synecdoche has been awarded the 2016 AIA Michigan Honor Award in the Small Project/Low Budget category for the work on AKA Sushi in collaboration with daub Architecture. AKA is one of only two projects to be awarded in this category this year.

Adam Smith and Lisa Sauve are founders and principals of Synecdoche, a design firm in Ann Arbor Michigan. They describe their practice as "design/make". One of their earlier projects was a temporary installation in Atlanta. Nathan Koskovich, AIA called them up to find out what they've been up to recently, what's behind the name "Synecdoche", and exactly what they mean by "design/Make".

Synecdoche Design’s proposal for the Flat Lot Competition, hosted by Flint Public Art Project became a semi-finalist proposal for the installation. The project imagined a large canopy of rope which would be cut down and distributed to schools as jump ropes after the project was complete.
