SLIDE APARTMENTS
Slide Apartments is a proposed adaptive reuse of a St. Clair Shores nursing home facility into an apartment complex.
Synecdoche provided development and feasibility studies on the potentials of the project, investigating zoning, site design, existing building conditions and layout. The team optimized the 27,000 SF to fit 30 apartment units, a leasing office, and a mail room.
The proposal’s design maximized the efficiency of units and overall layout, and utilized the existing plumbing systems.
The design team found it important to enhance the existing site into a pleasant courtyard and to connect each apartment to this space. Rather than arranging the units along a hallway inside of the building, each unit is accessed from a path off of the courtyard.
To provide privacy for each unit, the team designed wooden screens perpendicular to frame the length of each unit and the front door. The screens and the exterior entry to the units create a semi-private front door and patio.
